MARCH 18th MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order: at 6:30 PM.

Introduced Members and Guests - Total 15 members out of 15 RSVP’s. Doug Wilson was excused as sick and Kelly Kosko took his seat. Fred Volkers (speaker).

Roll Call of Officers - All officers present.

Proof of Meeting Notice - Meeting notice approved.

Approval of Previous Minutes - Approved as amended.

Reports of Officers:

Reported:

President - Mike Noot

·      The Annual Chapter Meeting for the installation of officers is coming in May. Anyone interested in serving please contact any Officer. Serving multiple terms has been frowned on in the past, but it may be allowed by membership vote. It’s always a good thing to get people involved with the Chapter who haven’t been. To be president you must have served in another position.

Past President - Allen Johannessen

·        No report.

Vice President - Marc Schoenberg

·         It has been brought to my attention that some of the other Chapters offer free membership renewal to unemployed or laid off members. Do we want to discuss this?

Mike Noot: There may not be any benefit to that, we have traditionally kept the names on the list in perpetuity, you simply couldn’t vote if you were not paid up. You’d still get all the notices.

Marc Schoenberg:  Any benefit to the Chapter?

Mike Noot: Good Will.

Treasurer- David McCurdy

·         Summary report March 2010: WAMU Bank Checking Account has a balance of $737.91 and we have deposited $550.00.  WAMU Money Market Account is now at $14,262.97 and earned interest of $.05 as we have not received a statement.

·         The new address of WWC of ICC is PO BOX 112468, Tacoma , WA 98411-2468

Secretary- Andy Westgaard

·         Please send me any change in your contact information, and let me know if you’re aware of anyone not getting the notices.

Report of Committees - No reports.

  New Business

·        Burien is looking for an On Call Inspector.  See Jan.

·      Jim Frank: Robbins & Co do house lifting and seismic retrofitting, and they would like to do a class. Any interest?

Marc Schoenberg: Have them call me.

Jim Frank: As a construction supervisor I believe I am an Associate Member. Does an Officer need to be a class A or B member?

(The By-laws were referred to Article 5.1.3 Restrictions.  Officers must be Class A or Class B members.)

Mike Noot: Can we entertain a motion next meeting and vote on whether we want to change the By-Laws?

(See the by-laws for noted information at the referenced Article.)

Mike Noot: I wish I’d brought the videos from the SeaTac Anniversary. They had the Good Wall/Bad Wall up, and it was a good display even though the middle part was left out for the smaller space. We will need to tune it up some. I saw a dozen kids build birdhouses, and everybody loved it. We should have a bag of Payday candy bars to give to whoever can find all the defects in the wall.

The code updates are going to be April 26th, 27th, and 30th. It looks like we will break even at 30 people a day. I will see if we can get the regional benefit, which might bring it down to about 26 people a day break even. How many here are planning to go? (A half dozen hands went up.)

Register by April 16th.  Our regular meeting in April is going to be the first nomination of officers for the 2010-2011 year. The May meeting is our Annual Business meeting with final nominations and election of  officers.  I had a query about postponing our May meeting, as WABO is the same day in Leavenworth . Any motion?

(It was moved, seconded and approved to move the May meeting to the following week, May 27th.)

Old Business

·         Mike Noot had a call from a lady with FEMA, who co-ordinates special projects. She said they need all kinds of projects done. He will keep us posted. He haven’t heard back from Lewis County , stay tuned.

Training and Guest Speaker -

Training program -   "Tips on What to Look for in a Plumbing Inspection Part 2"

Guest Speaker -   Mr. Fred Volkers, N. W. Washington Chapter, IAPMO;  Plumbing Inspector

·        “Remember, without plumbing, the most beautiful building is just a warehouse.”

·        “The UPC was adopted in Washington in my first year as a journeyman. Today, IAPMO has offices in seven countries, and half the world has adopted the UPC."

·        Some tips:

- Nail plates need to go 1½ “ past the pipe each side.

- The mid-story guide is to keep the plastic pipe from touching the sheet rock after hot water has caused expansion over the years.

- Don’t use plumbers tape for the floor support, they can glue on a pipe support either homemade from cut pipe or manufactured.

- PVC always needs purple primer, if you can’t see it through a clean out it’s not there.

- Hanging pipe must be supported at every change in direction.

- TPR valves from water heaters can go into the washing machine drain, indirect.

- Watch out for out of state contractors installing accessible bathrooms, the WA amendments are different, and many contractors don’t find out.

- Waterless urinals are not working. By and large they take more water to clean than they save, and maintenance is a huge surprise to the owners.

- Remember, the next NW Washington IAPMO Chapter meeting is going to be right here at Dukes on Thursday, April 1st.

Thanks, Fred, and again, good luck in retirement when you finally pull the trigger in June!

Raffle Winner: Was won by Jim Frank, for $8:00.

Member Drawing:   The winner was Joe Szpek, who was not present.  $19.00 is going back in the pot.

Adjourned:  At 8:40 PM.
